The article states that a good way to handle new projects is to form a group of people into team and provides three reasons of support. However, the professor explains that having a team to carry out the projects is not as efficient as having individual contributors to handle the project and he refutes each of the authors openion.
First, reading claims that a group of people have vast knowledge and skills compared to that of individuals. However, the professor refutes this point by saying that not not all the group members contributed equally to the project. Some of the team members got free ride while others worked hard. These hard workers provided lot of insights to the project. But they did not get any recognition.
Second, the article posits that team can make the decisons more quickly. Because team will have better expertise and less risk. But, the professor says that team had to conduct several meetings and it took very long to reach a common ground where everyone agreed to one decision.
Third, article states that working in a team would be rewarding for team members. It also states that there is a better opportunity for an indivial to grow if he is working in a team. The professor opposes this point by saying that one or two people within a group become very influential. As a result of this, some of the descions which the influential people do not agree will be quickly dropped even though those ideas were good. Similarly, when few people warned the team about a particular which is not good, rest of the members ignored them. When project failed at the end, blame was put on entire team.
