You are applying for a job and you need a letter of reference. Write a letter to a former boss.
In your letter
• Describe the job you are applying for
• Say what you want to be included in the reference letter
• Request that your former boss send you the letter by the end of the week
Dear Mr Smith,
I am writing this letter to ask you if you could write me a reference letter. The job I am applying for is for a Development Consultant in a product based IT company. More specifically, the job is to give client demos.
Let me explain in more detail about the content of the reference letter. I know that I had worked as a software engineer in your organization but it would be very much appreciated if you could also include my various traits of personality. You can mention my hardworking and disciplined nature. As the job profile requires interaction with clients, it would be grateful if you could also mention my communication skills. I was a part of event organizing team and had participated in the arrangements of various outdoors and corporate get-together. The inclusion of such points can make my profile stronger.
It would be really kind if you could send me the reference letter by end of this week. The deadline to apply for this job with reference letters is this Monday and I don't want to miss this opportunity. I know you have a very tight schedule, but I would be highly thankful if you could mail me the letter as soon as you can.
I look forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience.
Yours sincerely,
ABC XYZ
