Both the lecture and the passage is about the migration hypothesis of Edmontosaurus. The migration hypothesis states that Edmontosaurus migrated in the winter as they can survive in a more hospitable place. The passage proves this assumption by asserting three reasons while the professor casts doubt on every single proof by some evidence.
To begin with, the author mentions that they were obliged to immigrate because there were not enough plants. Plants could not grow in the cold temperature of the north scope. Edmontosaurus were herbivorous so they should find somewhere else to feed on. Conversely, the speaker dismisses this claim by asserting that the temperature of North Slope was extremely higher than today's temperature. In the summer, the sunshine caused lots of plants to grow, as a result, there was plenty of food. In addition, in winter there was enough nutrient for them to survive. Thus they did not need to migrate.
Secondly, the reading asserts that there is some evidence indicating that Edmontosaur lived in herd. Many modern animals living in herd migrate therefor Edmontosaur did it too. The lecturer refutes this reason by an example of some modern animal. There are some animals which live in herd but they do not migrate. Living in herd is not a convincing reason for this hypothesis as it has some other benefits except easier migration.
Third, the passage proves that Edmonosaurs were able to migrate long distance because they were fast enough for their journy. In the opposition, the professor mentions juveniles which were not as fast as adults. Juveniles could not be capable of immigration and the adults did not leave them alone, thus, they did not migrate in the winter.
