The chart illustrates information about the average emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) per capita in four countries the United Kingdom, Sweden, Italy and Portugal in forty years from 1967 to 2007.
In general, it is clear to see that there was a general decrease in CO2 emissions in metric tonnes in the United Kingdom and Sweden between 1967 and 2007, while Italy and Portugal experienced a significant increase in carbon dioxide emissions.
In 1967, the United Kingdom was the highest country of CO2 emissions in metric tonnes with nearly 11 tonnes. Following this, the figure for carbon dioxide emissions fell remarkably each year, as a result in 2007 the number of carbon dioxide emissions was around 9 tonnes. Similarly, Sweden one of the top regions had the highest emissions at over 8 tonnes in 1967 and dropped dramatically to nearly 5 tonnes in 2007. Exceptionally, the time period from 1967 to 1977 this figure rose considerably to over 10 tonnes.
In contrast, both Italy and Portugal witnessed a noticeable rise in carbon dioxide emissions from over 4 and 1 ton to over 6 and 4 tonnes respective in forty years. Nevertheless, between 1997 and 2007 this figure unchanged in Italy.
