The given bar chart compares the ratio of households which are owned and those which are rented accommodations during the years 1918 to 2011 in England and Wales.
Comparing the percentages of rented and owned houses, it is noted that there has been considerable raise in the number of purchased houses and conversely substantial drop in rented accommodations within those years.
According to the above bar chart, the number of purchased houses increased gradually during those 100 years with a raise of up to 40%. It is also noted that in the year 1971, the number of both rented and owned houses have seen a period of stability where both rented and owned house were at 50%.
The percentage of leased accommodations has fallen steadily as time went by to as low as almost 30% decline, and has reached it's lowest in 1991 with about 36% drop.
In conclusion, the population of England and Wales prefer to buy their living spaces as it is considered to be cheaper, and as the years went by, more people tend to own their own houses.
