According to the passage, there are three theories which explain how agnostids behaved. However, the professor casts doubt on each of the theories and rejects them by providing some highlighted reasons which will be mentioned in the following paragraphs.
First, the reading states that agnostids were free-swimming predator like other types of primitive arthropods. Conversely, the lecturer refuses this idea by asserting that all of those anthropods which were predator had big eyes. Also, he adds that agnostid had tiny eyes even some of them were blind, therefore, they were not able to be a predator. Besides, there is no evidence that they have another ability instead of the vision for being a predator.
Second, the author declares that they supposedly have dwelled on the seafloor by consuming dead organisms and bacteria. On the contrast, the speaker implies that animals on the seafloor move slowly and they just stay in the small area. The evidence indicates that agnostids had the ability to move long distance. Also, their fossils were found in area large a, not in small local, thus, this theory is not accurate.
Third, the writer mentions that agnostids perpetually were parasites which live on larger organisms. In the opposition, the professor clarifies that parasites have a small population but the agnostics had a very large population, as a result, they could not be parasites.
In conclusion, the professor claims that the theories which are pointed by the author have some weaknesses, hence, they are not valid.
