You borrowed some books from your school or college library. Unfortunately you have to go away to visit a sick relative and cannot return the books on time. Write a letter to the library. Explain what has happened and tell them what you want to do about it.
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter to apprise you that the books which I have borrowed from the library will not be returned on time. I am really sorry about this delay but I cannot help it.
As you know I was supposed to submit the books on Monday but I will not be able to do so because I am in Delhi right now and I will return to Mumbai only on Tuesday. One of my uncles has fallen ill and is being treated in a hospital in Delhi. His condition is a little serious. Since his children are abroad, I have to be here by his bedside until they return.
I promise I will return the books on Tuesday. Since I have always returned my books on time, I hope you will waive the late submission fee.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Yours Sincerely
Rana Singh
