First of all, although in the article the author claims that genetic modified trees are more likely to survive than their unmodified counterparts, the professor argues that genetic modified trees are only designed to resistant to one condition. When they faced various threats, because of their uniformity, they will be wiped out. Therefore, the professor actually believes that genetic modified trees are not likely to survive.
Second, even though the author states that genetic modified trees are able to bring a lot of economic benefits to the farmer, the professor mentions that the genetic modified trees cost more money than unmodified trees. Every time, farmers who want to grow genetic modified trees have to pay much to the company for the seeds. Thus, the professor can conclude that tree farmers can not get high returns form genetic modified trees.
Finally, while the author of the article indicates that growing genetic modified trees can prevent overexploitation of wild trees, the professor points out that genetic modified trees are more aggressive than nature trees. As a result, genetic modified trees will compete other plants for resources. The professor contend that the use of genetic modified trees can not save the endangered native trees.
