rising factories
Both reading and listening are talking about rising factories in nineteenth centuries. While the writer explains that invention of steam engine, railroads, and cheap labors are the main reasons for increasing the number of factories in all of the world, the lecturer refuses this idea and claims those reasons are not as important as the development of the iron's foundries, spread of sail ships and arms manufacturing.
The first point the author makes is that the original achievement of technology to intensification the growth rate of factories was steam-engine. By this invention, the power needed to work the same as many people were obtained. Therefore, these huge engines needed a place called factory to be protected. On the other hand, the lecturer asserts that even the steam engine is made of iron and without the expansion of steel foundation, there would not be an increase in factories and industries.
Another key point the author makes is that development of railway lines which lead to higher level of transporting goods to market throughout the world. The author, however, disagrees with this belief, proposing that rising factory period existed before invention railroads and sail ships were the major reasons for industrialization.
Lastly, the author goes on to say that property rights provided cheap labor. Both cheap workforce and laws protect private poverty from government caused by a tremendous increasing rate. On the contrary, the lecturer says that the concept of factories has come from buildings that used for manufacturing arms.
