The reading passage proposes three plans on decreasing the sanity in Salton Sea in California, in order to avoid the extinction of fish and birds. However, the instructor thinks that none of them is practical or realistic.
According to the instructor, even though the desalination can seperate water vapor from other solid substances, the materials that were left behind contain toxic chemicals, which may have a negtive impact on people's health once these chemicals are spreaded by wind.
The dillution of using sea water pumping through pipelines or canals is also unrealistic. The nearest seashore from the lake is over a thousand kilometers and the government does not have enough resources or money to fund such an expensive construction plan.
Third, since there are a lot of intense geological activities occuring around Salton Sea, the walls would be damaged once an earthquack happens. Thus, even though building walls can seperate the walls, it is can only last for a short time.

- The salton sea in California is actually a salty inland lake. The level of salt in the lake’s water—what scientists call its salinity—has been increasing steadily for years because the lake’s water is evaporating faster than it is being replaced b 76
