Asthma

Essay topics:

Asthma

The reading and the lecture are both about asthma and its consequences. The writer of the passage believes that asthma is an ill that can be treated medically and that the symptoms disappear after an attack. The lecturer challenges the statements made by the writer. He is of the opinion that there might be some other causes to this disorder.

First, the writer states that coughing, wheezing, and other symptoms are temporary. It is mentioned that airways go back to normality after an attack. However, the lecturer refutes this by asserting that in the past this was a common belief, but in recent time it has been proved that some airway problems might be forever. Furthermore, he says that remodeling problem in airways has been found in children after and before an asthma event.

Secondly, the author establishes that asthma is caused either by wrapped muscles around the bronchi or mucus stuck inside the breathing tubes. The article claims that asthmatic people is more sensitivity to external stimulus because of this problem. On the other hand, the professor says that remodeling as well as genetics are causes of asthma. He puts forth the idea that the sensitive reaction to environmental agents is because of genetics in people.

Additionally, the lecturer assures that the combination of genetics and environmental stimulus is a strong cause of asthma.
