The two graphs show the main sources of energy in the USA in the 1980s and the 1990s.
The two pie charts compare five major sources of energy including oil, natural gas, coal, hydroelectric power and nuclear power in the United States in the year of 1980 and 1990.
It can be seen from the pie charts that oil was the most popular type of energy in America in both 2 years, whereas, the consumption of hydroelectric power was the least among the four other categories.
In the 80s and 90s, the usage of natural gas was almost the same, accounting for nearly a quarter of the total energy consumption. Besides, oil contributed the largest proportion in the US energy with 42% in 1980, however, there was a slight drop in the percentage of this category to 33%, a decrease of approximately 10% in 10- year period.
Over a decade, coal experienced a small growth of 5% from 22% in 1980 to 27% in 1990. Hydroelectric power and nuclear power shared the same proportion with only 5% for each in 1980. However, a marked increase could be seen in the consumption of coal with a rise to 10% while hydroelectric power remained stable at 5% in the next ten year.
