It is clear from the chart that all trends were generally upward. At the beginning of the period, in 1982, the number of student from Singapore, Indonesia and Hong Kong were only zero, but figures grew to 19000, 23000 and 18000 according to the 2000's statistics, respectively. In contrast, Malaysian students included 5000 residents in the beginning and gradually rose to 17 000 till the end of the period. The number of students from Malaysia reached its peak of 18000 in 1998. In comparison, according to statistics, the figures of Indonesia and Hong Kong also peaked at 19000 and 27000 in the same year. After which, the general trend of decrease to 21000, 15000 and 16000 was faced by figures of Indonesia, Hong Kong and Malaysia. However, the figure of Singapore in the statistics did not decline, but steadily rose.
Overall, increasing in numbers was general trend in the statistics of overseas students coming in Australia, who came from the countries mentioned above.
