To understand the most important characteristics of a society, one must study its major cities.
Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the statement and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should consider ways in which the statement might or might not hold true and explain how these considerations shape your position.
The topic issue is whether for one to understand the most important characteristic of a society it is cardinal to study its major cities. For the purpose of this essay, we will consider that the meaning of the understanding should be seen from a historical point of view. While it is indubitable that the major cities must be thoroughly analysed as they constitute the engine of the country economy, this unilateral approach ignores the small towns and the rural areas which are nevertheless a large part of the society.
For a deep and accurate image, the common features which define the society as a whole must be identified and only then one may say to what extent a big city can be seen as a summary of the society.
Nowadays, in the developed countries the major cities become as the Greek people use to say "megalopolis". Cosmopolitan and globalized with an intermingling of various groups of people brought up in different cultures, the megacities have now their own identity not always analogous with the country they belong. For instance, studying London, a scholar will see an incomplete picture of how the British people are or what are the values they cheris more. In fact, there are claims that London does no longer represents England as New York is a city of all people very different than the rest of America. nevertheless, these cities are the cultural core of society as nowhere else artsa and spirits can find a better place to extend. On top of this, the major cities are the financial backbone of the economy and also the home for the political power. In these metropolis, people are shaping their society changing almost every day due to social interactions. As a result, one can not look there for ancients roots and can be sure the traditional aspects of life are diluted.
having established above the importance of the major cities, let us turn now to the reasons for investigating small towns and rural areas. Firstly should be pointed out that in the villages in almost no globalization, emigrants rarely can be seen there and therefore the cultural tradition is well preserved. Another cardinal point here is the fact in the countryside people are generally formed by the environment and climate they live. this is why there are no much changes during time.
In conclusion, although the big cities are important, a real image must be made after every part of society have been deeply studied
