the graph below shows the quantities of goods transported in the UK
The line graph below illuminates the amounts of goods transferred in the UK over a period of 28 years by road, water, rail, and pipeline.
As the graph illustrates, the amounts of goods transported by road is by far the highest quantity over this 28-year period.
In 1974, the figures for water and rail-transported goods coincided at relatively 40 million tons. However, the line for road-transmitted goods elucidates that well above 70 million tons of goods are transported in the roads. By contrast, the figure for pipeline transportation shows a negligible quantity of nearly 5 million tons. The trend is relatively similar until 21 years later where the line for road transportation saw a steep rise to a peak of 100 million tons in 2002. This is true for quantities transferred by rail. The line is illustrated to have increased to an apex of more than 60 million tons in 2002. Conversely, the figure for water-transported goods confronted a slight fall till 1998, where it increased suddenly to a summit of over 40 million tons in 2002. Nevertheless, the amount of good transmitted by pipeline stayed perfectly stable at a negligible amount of over 20 million tons till 2002.
