salvage logging
The passage is about salvage logging after forests fires and severe storms which affect /are affecting/ the noerthwestern part of the US. The author believes that the processing of damaged woods will be economically and biologiucally efficient. Yet the professor hasve an opposite opinion about this. at.
The first supportive point of the author is to provide free space for new trees to grow. It is clear that dead trees will require several years to decompose and will not allow new ones trees to grow rapidly. However, the speaker does not agree with this statement. He claeims that these very dead trees themselves are the main fertilizers of the soil. Thus, it will make much better conditions for new growing trees in the future.
The second argument of the passage has due to with insects. The decaying wood is a good environment for spruche bark beetle insect which can have a bed impact on other living trees. This is why the reomoving of dead wood can resque the rest part of the forest from insects. Nonetheless, the professor does believe that the decaying wood is living space for other good insects and birds as well. For instance it can have good influence on other population of insects which have important role in forests development.
The final reason to support salvage logging associated with economic benefits. Activeevly developing industry require a lot of wood for production and together with this forest fires are diminishing available wood resourcies. Usually collecting of fired wood can treat this situtation. Fired wood is still useful for production and can hire local people for work. On the other hand the professor is explaining that the process of fired woo collection is expenscieve and difficult process. Very often this procsiedure need advanced expeanscive technicques and proffessionals in this job. From this can be inferred that even locals cannot be involved in this works.
In conclusion, it is evident that forest disasters have a bad influence on both economics and ecology. Nevertheless the author thinks that salvage logging can softean the economic problems. Yet the professors support the idea that it is much better to leave forests as they are and do not collect fired wood.
