TPO-47 - Integrated Writing Task
The lecture and the reading both discuss the fly ability of the Pterosaurs. While the reading states that pterosaurs have some weakness and cannot fly, the lecture refutes each of the author's reasons.
First of all, the reading claims the pterosaurs are cold-blooded reptiles and this kind of animals cannot fly because they need to consume more energy. However, the lecture argues that fossils of Pterosaurs show this animal has a hair on their body which covers the whole of the pterosaurs’s body, and we know that warm-blooded animal has a hair on their body to protect the body heat. Furthermore, the professor says, the metabolism of the warm-blooded animal supply adequate energy to powered flight.
In addition, the reading makes the arguments that pterosaurs cannot fly due to their weight which was very huge. The lecture counters this point by stating pterosaurs have unusual light anatomy because they had hollow bones instead of solid bones. According to the professor, the hollow bones helps pterosaurs to have a low weight which assists the animal to consume less energy during the fly.
Ultimately, the reading passage argues that pterosaurs needed big and powerful muscle to fly but their leg's muscles were delicate. The lecture refutes this claim by pointing out there is some difference between birds and pterosaurs, for instance, birds use two legs for running and jumping but pterosaurs use four legs. Moreover, the professor says pterosaurs use four legs to push-off the ground to jump high and to walk.
