The pie charts compares the proportion of housing owned and rented in UK in two selected years: 1991; 2007.
Overall the percentage of home ower increased and private renting stabled, while the figures for the other two sectors fell. The largest figure is home ower which is more than half of homes. However, social housing comprised tiny proportion of all homes.
Home ower account for 60 percent in 1991 and this rose steadily to 7 percent in 2007. Looking at the sectors of private renting, it remained stabled at 11 percent during a period of 16 years.
In contrast, the figure of the other sectors decreased. In 1991, social renting amount for 23 percent or nearly a quarter of homes and dropped off 17 percent in 2007. There was a decrease in the least popular type of homes ( social housing), from 6 percent to 2 percent.
