Soon technology will provide smart cars: that virtually drive themselves. Summarize the points made in the lecture being sure to explain how they challenge specific points made in the reading passage.
The reading passage and the lecture have conflicting opinions about whether the advance of technology by providing smart cars will bring more positive or negative consequences to the users, drivers, and cities. The article presumes that this new technology created to transportation will provide only improvements, since a human would not be in charge of controlling the vehicles. On the other hand, the listening part affirms the opposite. Since technology process also have its fails.
First of all, according to the reading smart cars will prevent accidents, since they will be equiped with sensors that can detect other cars and obstacles on the way. However the lecturer disputes this part. She says that because technology fails all time, many more cars can be involved in an car crash.
Secondly, the reading states that because cars will be controlled by computers, the traffic will disappear. The system will make sure that cars will follow each other closely, increasing the speed on the roads and resulting in less traffic. This feature will also encourage more people to commute, since they would spend less time during their travel.
Nevertheless, the lecturer refutes this argument. She argues that driving with more convenience can actually introduce more cars on the streets, increasing traffic. Therefore, decreasing people interests in commute.
Finally, the reading claims that technology will provide less costs in veichles maintenance by choosing better routes. Also less money will be spent in repairs, since the mechanic system will not get affected by problems like holes and other obstacles on the streets. On the other hand the lecturer believes that the more advanced the equipment the more expensive its repairs. The technology will not help people to save any money.
