summarize the points made in the lecture about owning the franchise business, being sure to explain how they cast doubt about reading passage.
According to the reading passage, many people can fulfill their dream of owning the business without any fear of loss by buying a franchise. However, the professor cast doubt upon this by saying that recent studies showed that this is not true and refutes each of author’s points.
First of all, the professor argues that many franchise companies force their owners to buy specific goods and services from particular places. Even though these products are available in cheaper price on other places, but the owners have to buy them by paying more money, from specified places. This opposes the reading which claims that buying from reliable suppliers of franchise, the new business owner can save their money, because as a new business owner, they can lose money by getting products from wrong suppliers.
Second, the professor states that small business owners can advertise their business at a cheaper price as compared to the franchise fee they are paying for having a franchise business. These companies do advertise their products, but their advertisements are not only for you but they for their own business which is available on other places as well. This disputes the reading which explains that small business owners can save their money in marketing their products by owning franchise because franchise companies advertise their products all the time.
Finally, the professor says that it is true that owning a franchise business for new business owners is less risky, but there is a third option which is not mentioned in the reading. He added that new owners can buy already existing business which is not franchise. Studies have proven that owning existing business has twices as much success during first four years as owning a franchise. This contradicts reading which claims that new un-experienced business owners have more security and better chance of success in first few years by owning a franchise as compared to having their own independent business.
