These charts provide information about changes in world population from 1900 to 2000. The data are presented as percentage of the world population by region.
Asia’s percentage of world population decreased from 60% to 50% while Europe (including Russia) dropped from 60% to 54%. On the other hand, both Africa and Latin America’s percentage of world population increased over twofold, from 4,5% to 10% and from 3% to 8% respectively. Interestingly, North America showed no change, remaining at 5% of world population both in 1900 and 200. A new region category, Midle East and North Africa, represented 6% of world population in 2000. The other region took place of 3% of world population in 2000, rose slightly from 2,5% in 1900.
Overall, the number of human in the planet increased dramatically from 1,600 million in 1990 to 6 billion in 2000. Such rise was dominated by developing countries that located both in Africa and Latin America.
