Both figures then increased sharply, and reached over 50 million UK journeys overseas which was nearly double the journeys to the UK (about 25 millions) in 1999.
Looking at the bar chart in detail, in 1999, there were roughly 11 million UK visitors to France, which is the highest figure among five countries. In contrast, Turkey was the least favorite country, accounted for only 2 million UK journeys. The second popular country was Spain, with approximately 9 million people, almost doubled and tripled the figures for the US and Greece respectively.
