electronic medical information, electronic databases, paper form, reducing costs, preventing errors, aiding research, patients' paper records
In this set of material, both the author and the lecturer are discussing about databases and records for medical information, and which of the electronic databases or paper form are better. While the author declares that the electronic medical information has several advantages, the professor explains that these advantages are very uncertain. There is no preference using electronic databases at the compare of paper forms. In what follows, reasons of the both the author and the lecturer will be substantiated.
Firstly, both the author and the professor have a debate on costs. According to the reading passage, it is said that electronic medical information leads to low costs. On the other hand, the professor believes they need emergency backup. So, it has not little costs. For example, doctors should put signature on the paper, and it's easy for them instead of electronic one.
Secondly, the reading and talk give their viewpoint about errors in the forms. The author asserts that electronic information tends to be without error, and their errors are at the low level. In contrast, the lecturer proclaims that the electronic type of forms cannot eliminate errors. Because staffs should type the forms on the automation system, the hand-writing error may be transferred to the computers, and the staffs need to adapt to system.
Finally, the author declaims that the electronic forms have aiding research. However, the professor does not agree with the passage. Because there is a need to a permission to access some information from security center of laboratories, hospitals, and so forth, therefore it cannot be easy to access the databases. Moreover, someone can block information.
In conclusion, the advantages of the electronic information are uncertain.
