It can be clearly seen that in 1985, number of visitors travelling abroad was 5 million. In next 5 years tourists increased to double of it to reach at approximately 11 million visitors in year 1990. However, in 1991, visitors showed slight decline in the numbers with near about 10 million visitors. After that it showed gradual increase in next 4 years to reach at the highest number of visits outside Japan with 15 million in 1995.
Moving further, in 1985, Australia's share of Japan's tourist market stood at 2 percent. Furthermore, it showed gradual increase in next 3 years with 2 and a half percent increase. However, in between 1988 and 1989 it decreased slightly by 1%. Afterwards, it steadily increased from year 1989 to 1993 and reached at its highest with more that 6% of market share. Although, in 1994 it fell slighlty to stay at 6% of Australia's share.
Overall, it is noticeable that travelling abroad among Japanese people showed growth every year which resulted in significant rise in the Australia share in the Japanese tourist market.
