Do you agree or disagree with the statement that reducing working days is beneficial? compare the idea mentioned in a passage with the lecture you listened to.
The article states that reducing working days into 4 days and 10 hours a day can benefit both employees and job owners. However, the expert in the lecture refutes this hypothesis totally by giving three reasons to support his position.
First, the reading mentions that decreasing working day and increasing working hours have the possibility to lessen the costs by 34 percent. But, the man in the lecture opposed with this idea since he thinks that generally it is not going to have a fundamental impact on the costs. On the other hand, it can damage the whole business structure by this action.
Second, the passage discusses that cutting a day in a week work can reduce the operating costs that every company have to bear and this reduction can benefit them by saving some in less consumption of gas and light. The expert in the lecture feels that this assumptions misguide the readers. He believes that if the companies continue their work and business for more two hours in each day, it would be for nothing since most of their customers go to their homes and they are not doing any business late in the afternoon. Moreover, it may cut 20 percent of their income by shortening their work time.
Third, the reading proposes that this act can assist the employees to spend more time with their families and loved ones. However, the lecturer insists that the people who worked for 10 hours in each day cannot do anything good for their family as they will be so much tired after long period of evening work. Also, this will force them to find daycares and kindergartens for their children that accept to keep them for longer hours in the evenings when their parents are still working. In addition, if they have any older children there would be a short window of time for them to meet their parents since they spend most of their day at school.
