The main idea of both the passage and the lecture is about changing the information record of pationts from paper form to electronic medical record. The reading claims that medical information should be changed to new system by pointing out three supporting reasons. The professor, on the other hand, repudiats whatever mentioned in the reading and provides some evidence to the contrary.
First, the reading states that by using electronic detabase, the cost will be reduced a lot. The professor, nevertheless, denies it, saying that it cannot reduces the cost because doctors who addopted to write on the paper, they do not change this attitude, and they will continue writing prescription on th papar. In addition she mentions that doctors also save the papers as a backup, besides, the papers maybe needed in the future because the doctor's signiture is on the paper and they have to keep it for some sort of ligacy situation.
Second, the passage discusses that the change can reduce the mistakes producing because of a bad handwriting. However, the professor rejects the author's view and illustrates the idea that this change will not eliminate the mistakes made by illegible handwriting. She menstions that doctors who used to writing on the paper, still use this procudure when the visiting a patient. And latter, the staffs who enter the information from the paper to the computer can have some problem with reading the handwriting and type false information.
Third, the author claims that this change can help the researches to have access to the database easily. On the contrary, the lecturer disagrees with this idea, by clarifying that this change will not nesserily effect the research procudure. She states that researchers still find difficult to access the database becuase of the privacy law. Acording to this law, all the medical information have to be private and all researches need to follow this rule. If they want to have access to some detabase, they should get permision from the patients, moreover, they have to do a lot of paper work first.
