A glance at the table reveals that only Europe and Asia witnessed an increasing pattern, while the rest experiences opposite ones.
As regards the first, the number of forested lands in Europe, was higher over the year, commenced at the highest number among the others at 989 hectares in 1990 and continued to gradually grow to peak at 1001 hectares in 2005. The forested area of Asia went through a mild fluctuation, falling from 576 to just 570 in 2000 and finalized at 584 in 2005.
By contrast, the forested area in the other four countries went down by varying degrees. There was a slight decline of one to three hectares in the statistic of North America and Oceania, with the former initial at 708 and the latter at 199 hectares. The number of both Africa and South America both decreased by 40 hectares to 709 and 904 respectively in 2000, followed by an insignificant dip of approximately 10 hectares in the next five years.
