Actually, both the passage and the lecture comment about a special extinct animal which its fossils have been discovered in stones in hundreds of wide areas. the researchers have been detected that the animal called agnostid was a kind of arthropod. Although the passage brings three hypothesizes for illustrating the agnostids' lifestyle the lecturer puts those theories under question. According to professor's statements, none of the hypothesizes are convincing.
First, as the passage expressed since agnostids are counted as arthropods, they might be swimming predators which fed on a vast range of other organisms. The man; however, refutes the claim by emphasizing the fact that such predators had large eyes; whereas, the agnostids sometimes was blind; besides, they didn't have any other sensitive organs in order to use them instead of huge eyes.
Next, as declared in the article, they presumably survive by eating dead organism and bacteria on the seafloor; nonetheless, the speaker dismisses the idea by indicating the fact that arthropods which are survived by such manners move slow and their location of living is so restricted. The agnostids fossils have been found in many places which are located far from each other that proves the fact that they were enabled to travel long distance by a considerable speed.
Finally, the passage sets forth that agnostids were parasites; in other words, their foods were larger animals. Nevertheless, the professor doesn't reinforce the theory by adding the though that the agnostids lived in a large population in comparison with parasites which preferred to be in a limited group.
