Some universities admit students on the basis of academic grades while others prefer interviews and personal statements. Discuss
There is no disputing the fact that it is becoming more and more controversial matter for many universities to admit students either on the basis of academic grades or interviews and personal statements. This contentious conundrum has been debated for many years and there are in fact some opposite arguments related to this regard. In this essay, both viewpoints will be analyzed before a reasonable conclusion is reached.
On the on hand, there are some universities those are more prone to academic marks’ of students when youngsters try to enroll. This attitude is on account of some beliefs which might be considered as vital features for registration process. One of them is that academic grades are objective. What I mean by this is that describes genuine marks of enrollee and cannot deceive anyone in order to join a university. Furthermore, a student learns materials within the course and in the end of semester gets his or her marks. Some strongly claim that this way is most honest and transparent, because an interview takes too little time so as to estimate a student’s knowledge. What is more, occasionally some students try to embellish their personal statements with unreal information. Thereby these actions will definitely give rise to some problems connected with future education.
To view from a diverse side of this issue, other universities prefer interviews and personal statements rather than academic grades for some facts. First of all, these can unravel the personality of students and illustrates what personal aspects they own. Moreover, while a candidate give an interview, examiner becomes aware of his or her communication skills. With respect to subjects, it is undeniably obvious that various students are keen on different subjects and personal statement or interviews can depict which subject the student is engrossed on.
Taking all the mentioned facts above into consideration, I would like to reiterate that although academic marks best show students’ wisdom and educational skills, in terms of social skills and personality, the role of interviews and personal statements cannot be refuted. From my perspective, universities should apply both ways in the process of accepting students.
