The reading passage mentions to three theories about peculiar artifact stone with round shape and in diversity sizes which found in the Scotland. However, the lecturer denounces her disagreement for each theory that mentioned in the reading.
As a first theory, the reading mentions to use of these stones which used as a weapon in hunting or fighting. According to the evidence, characteristics like holding the stone balls at the end of the cord made the person possible to swing. While, the professor refers to other evidence that makes this theory unconvincing. In the professor’s opinion stones which used as weapon contain uneven surface but the debated stones are lack of this attribute. So, first theory will not be acceptable due to its contrast with weapon’s features.
Second, the professor repudiates the second theory which mentions to usage these stones at the measuring field due to their size that span 70 mm diameter. Because, the sort of the stones which contain sand , green and cord side stones, ascertain the weight of them. In the other words their kind have near relationship with their weight. Therefore, the ball stones undeniably couldn’t use in measuring system.
The third theory suggests stones usage as a social intention base on the reading. In fact, the complex designs on the stones balls were the principal reason to create third theory. While the professor explain two fact to clarify her opinion about third theory. First of all, stone balls consist of simple painting which cannot be related to person’s state. Furthermore, the high rank people buried in accordance with their situation while there were any stones on the graves. Consequently, third theory which mentioned in the reading passage is not logical enough and provable.
