The main idea of both the reading and the talk is the causes of the odd sounds. Considering this, the author provides three theories. The professor, on the other hand, categorically denies whatever mentioned in the passage through citing three reasons.
First, the author discusses that the strange sound was the calls ocra whaled during a courtship ritual. The lecturer, nonetheless, rejects the author's view and illustrates that the sound of whales could not be detectable by submarine because they were on the surface of the sea, far from submarine to hear.
second, the passage argues another theory, saying the sounds were caused by giant squid. The professor, nevertheless, supports a contradictory view as compared to that presented in the reading; he describes that giant squid live in water since many years ago and continuing its living, while the strange had been heard for only two decades. There is no reason to describe why the sound suddenly disappeared.
Third, the reading states that the sound probably had external source and caused by other countries' submarines. However, the lecturer refutes it, saying the sound chaneged it direction rapidly, while submarine could not able to do this quikly and with silent engine . Furthermore, she asserts that with today technology we cannot made such a submarine with the aforementioned features.
