The continuous research and improvement of services in the hotel industry is essential because of the high competitiveness on the world market recently. In order to meet the convenience needs of customers, many investors have applied automation technology to their businesses, which must include the "big" of world trade industry: China.
As an inevitable trend, China's Alibaba Group officially inaugurated the FlyZoo hotel, which operates on artificial intelligence (A.I.) and robots, computerizing many procedures such as check-in, room service, and lighting control on December 18th, 2018. FlyZoo in Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang province, where Alibaba is headquartered, is considered the group's first future hotel, Xinhua reported. The significant feature if guests can use facial recognition – rather than keys and keycards – to access the hotel.
290 room-hotel FlyZoo Hotel was built with 290 rooms by Alibaba's online travel platform, Fliggy, along with other Alibaba Group business units, such as Alibaba A.I. According to Radii China, rooms in A.I. hotels have seven different topics related to countries around the world. For example, the room with the theme "England" has many British flags, pictures with Big Ben clock tower, etc. The room price is about 200 USD. This real estate project may leverage cutting-edge tech to help transform the hospitality industry, one that keeps the sector current with the digital era we are living.
Besides, guests adjust electric lights, T.V.s, curtains in the room by voice commands for Alibaba's digital assistants named "Tmall Genie”. If they want fresh water for the room or new pillows, goods will be delivered to the guest room by the robots. Guests can easily book and check out rooms with just a few touches on the mobile screen through application software.
This business model is a testament to the high applicability and incredible development speed of the software industry. By the economic benefits that it brings, the application of software technology to the commercial industry will be the trend of the times. According to Wang Qun, FlyZoo's CEO, the A.I. system helps to increase management efficiency, reducing more than half the workforce: "AI-based solutions can save customers time and staff. Hotels do not have to do repetitive jobs," Global Times reported.
FlyZoo is the latest example of China's major technology corporations going into traditional ways like hotels and tourism. In July 2018, Baidu partnered with Intercontinental Hotel Group in Beijing to allow guests to use a voice-controlled assistant to adjust the room temperature and book room services easily.
