First, the author mentioned that the Moai statue was shifted to the resting place with the help of wooden logs and wooden tracks, due to which the plants were cut downed .Whereas, the lecturer asserts that the Moai statue was trasported with the help of rope and human lifting's in which no trees were harmed to prepare tracks.
Secondly, the author posits that the all the trees were cut downed and as a result of which the Easter Island faced paucity of resources like food from migratory birds, fishes from fishing industries,ect. However, the lecturer rebuts thise claim and asserts that lack of resource caused by the introduction of rats on the island and not by the construction of Moai state which involved trees to cut down. The rats had negative impact on Plam trees and as a result, created a scarcity of resources.
Moreover, the author contends that the population was least when the European explorer visited the island in eighteenth century, which was roughly around two thousands out of tweenty thousand. In contrast, the speaker opposes the author's claim by mentioning that the author overestimated the peak population to 20 thousand, whereas carbon foot prints reveals that settlement of eastern island occured in 1200AD, according to which when the European arrived population might be on the peak and not on the least.
In conclusion, the claims and reasons provided by the author has been challenged by the lecturer with supporting reasons.
