The reading and the lecture are both about the exploration of North Pole by Peary, which is caused the celebrity of Peary, but there are some doubts that if he himself explore the North Pole. The author of the reading believes that Peary has investigated the pole by mentioning some reasons. The lecturer challenges the statements made by the author. She is of the opinion that Peary did not explore the pole.
First of all, the author of the reading indicates that the instructor of the Peary was investigated by the National Geographic Society and they accept the records and equipment. The lecturer, however, rebuts this by asserting that all of the members of the committee were the Peary's friends, in which they helped Peary to get some fund and complete his research. Meanwhile, the investigation was done during two days, which is not acceptable.
Secondly, the writer contends that the doubt of Peary exploration comes from the time of his tour which was reached to Pole only by 37 days, but Avery also reached there by 37 days. This argument challenged by the speaker. She establishes that it is a fact that Avery reached there by 37 days, but his food was carried by airplane and he did not carried food by himself.
Finally, it is mentioned in the reading that the photographs taken by Peary prove that he reached in the North Pole. The lecturer, on the other hand, posits that the photographs shadow does not explore any thing, because the camera by which photos was taken, is not reliable. She established that those kind of camera gets some slightly photos so that the sun position does not mean that he reached to the North Pole.
