Governments should offer free university education to any student who has been admitted to a university but who cannot afford the tuition

Essay topics:

Governments should offer free university education to any student who has been admitted to a university but who cannot afford the tuition.

"Education is the greatest weapon that can be used to change the world." In my opinion, the above quote rightly answers the statement given above, and I agree with the account given above. There are broadly two reasons that I feel this way.

Firstly, take, for instance, India's population into consideration. Poverty in the country is an issue that cannot be ignored. A large chunk of the population still lives in poverty. In a country where a majority of the population falls in the low-income bracket, everyone can't have equal opportunities when it comes to education. In this scenario, if the government takes the initiative to fund the education of these affected people, there would be equality in society, and this would subsequently alleviate the issue of poverty itself.

Secondly, consider the population of India once again. For many years now, the issue of casteism has not been completely eradicated. Even to this day, a certain level of casteism prevails in society. Lower castes are still looked down upon in few communities, and they fail to get equal opportunities. To tackle this issue, the government of India has the reservation system in place, which reserves a certain number of seats in a university for these marginalized groups and provides them education for a lower cost or for free. This measure has undoubtedly helped in slowly removing the issue of casteism prevalent in society by giving equal opportunities. Additionally, some bright minds have been recognized from these groups that otherwise would have gone unnoticed.

To sum up, some would argue that if education is given for free, it will end up in the government incurring huge costs that would be detrimental to the country's growth. However, people are the best investment, and it is these people that the government helps that can help the government back in the future and help the society itself at large. Education plays a vital role in the development and progress of a country, and the government must ensure that everyone is entitled to the right to education.
