overpopulation problem
The writer of the reading and the professor of the listening discuss the problem of overpopulation. While the author enumerates three adverse effects: species extinction, rising wars and conflicts, and increasing cost of living, the professor, however, is not on the same wavelength with the author for several reasons. He explains the drawbacks of the writer’s claims in the following paragraphs.
First of all, the writer beings by stating that drinkable water can decrease by drank by overpopulation, leading to drop freshwater species. The lecturer, on the other hand, cast doubt on this point by saying that some biologists and researchers are finding large amounts of species that are not identified already. Thus, no-profit organizations and educations institutes are working hard to ensure the no threaten species, and they are addressed to ensure their preservation in the future.
Second, the reading posits that there is sufficient evidence that overpopulation depleted supplies of countries that lead to wars or fights around the world. The professors, however, disagrees with this viewpoint. He states that companies are developing new technologies that will be helpful if scarce some resources such as water. Specifically, in this area, scientists are creating incredible water filters, for instance.
As final point, the article claims that while people consider items will get cheaper in the future, their prices will rise. Again, the lecturer believes there are flaws in the writer’s argument. He holds that items are already cheaper today, for example, household supplies such as computers or cell phones. He goes on to say that it is any concern about essential items; they will be ever available for emerging countries.
In conclusion, both the author and the professor hold conflicting views about what could bring overpopulation around the globe. It is clear that they will have trouble finding common ground on this issue.
