TPO 2
Both the reading and the listening talk about whether gathering people into a team is the best way to do a new project. While the reading believes that building a team is the most beneficial for the new task, the lecture supposes that doing teamwork sometimes does not give the best benefits.
Firstly, both the reading and the listening discuss if teamwork helps project finish more quickly. The reading holds with the idea that since there are many resources and people who have a wide range of knowledge, skills and expertise, the work is done more quickly. Nonetheless, the professor does not see eye-to-eye with the reading point that assembling people into a team helps task complete more quickly because the professor thinks that it takes so long to reach people’s agreements. People sometimes spend many meetings just discussing how they move the project.
Secondly, the reading and the listening talk about whether doing teamwork helps people make many creative decisions. Again, the reading holds that when people work together in a team, all the members of the team are responsible with the result of the work so they can easily accept and do these risk choices. The lecture cast doubt on this idea by claiming that these decisions are sometimes decided by influential people in the group. In fact, when other people in the group give any ideas, these leading people sometimes drop these ideas and they no longer have any further discussions about them. Meanwhile, when these people catch any ideas, they ignore the warnings of other people and just go through them. If the work fails, all people will be blamed equally.
Thirdly, the reading and the listening discuss whether participating in a team helps people do the work better and become shine when they have good contributions. The reading says that when people all have their own decisions in the team’s decisions, they do things more efficiently and when they have a big effect on the result, they can be rewarded before many people. On the contrary to this reading point, the listening believes that despite all that things, people still work as hard as usual. Moreover, when the work is finished sufficiently, people just award all the people of the team and they do not commend anyone who give the best effort on the project.
