Nowadays, in this competitive world, almost all the nations are opting English as a compulsory subject in their curriculum. Although English is taught as secondary language in many schools across the globe, seeing its learning benefits and applicability at international level people are advocating its implication at the earlier ages. As a coin has its two sides, on similar note both benefits and drawbacks are associated in giving early weightage to a foreign language. This essay will present its supporting ideas to justify appropriate reasoning towards dark and bright side of implementing it at Kindergarten level.
It is an undeniable fact that English is emerging as a dominating language around the World. Due to its numerous advantages, parents are rethinking to introducing it to their children at the ages of 2 to 5. As per their opinion, learning English at this stage can produce good speakers as kids can adapt it easily. Moreover, at this age brains are at developing stage that can help to grasp and retain new words much better than at later ages, resulting in good grip over the fluency. For instance, good vocabulary learned at these ages can have a good control on communication skills. So, English, that act as a linking road to qualify for higher education overseas, improves fluency and understanding if introduced at right time.
In contrary, the drawbacks associated to this thought can not be overlooked. Starting English as early as the age of 2 can badly impact the value of native language. Children can easily loose the hold of their mother tongue leading to deviation from cultural values. Moreover, they will not be able to connect with their grand parents due to language barrier between them. For example, with increased dependency on English, kids will prefer to follow English calendar by getting influenced from English culture leaving behind their own traditions. Hence, early English learning can adversely effect our young generations.
To conclude, English is becoming part and parcel of our daily lives. The right applicability age for introducing English is debatable among many masses across the world. As per my opinion, maintaining a right balance between both English and native language at early stages can prove to be beneficial for children in a multilingual society.
