Many people disagree with a school policy which forces children to learn new languages. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
While a tendency of studying additionally one or two new tongues is more ubiquitous in the globalized context, some opinions believe that children should be forced to learn new languages at schools. Although I partly agree that schools are instrumental in teaching languages, I also believe that it is better if we search for other incentives to improve children’s capacity.
On the one hand, schools obviously have integral contributions to promote children’s language skills. Firstly, imposing appropriate disciplines at schools helps students to get accustomed to new languages’ principles more easily and professionally. It is clear that children have a better concentration on subjects that being required by their own teachers at schools than when they have lessons through distancing educational methods at home. Secondly, many reports indicated that people should study new languages in formative years to gain the best outcomes. And therefore, it is undoubted that schools are suitable environments to enables children to keep up with new knowledge academically during this early period.
On the other hand, although compulsory programs at schools are accepted widely, it is better if we provide our children with other interesting activities to promote their language skills. Firstly, apart from formal examinations at schools, teachers should take many language-related extra-curricular activities into consideration to help their students to get a sense of comfort and they then easily have a good grasp of academic subjects. Secondly, the parental involvement significantly contributes to the development of their offsprings. Parents should frequently discuss with their children about languages’ advantages and how languages are important as they enter the adults’ lives.
In conclusion, while children should be compulsorily taught new languages at schools, both teachers and parents should be encouraged to provide children with more interesting approaches.
