TPO 53- integrated cigarettes high taxation is good since it discourages people from buying bad things, it is financially fair, and it is a great revenue for the government.
The article asserts that imposing taxes on harmful products, such as cigarretes and junk foods, is beneficial. The professor, on the other hand, overthrows all the explanations and says that these opinions can be challenged. In the following, her justifications, used to shed light on this convoluted controvesy, will be discussed thoroughly.
First of all, the reading claims that this taxing strategy will decrease the rate of growing bad habits among individuals since they will get used to spending less money on bad products. The lecturer, however, rejects this notion, mainly because she believes people will continue their bad habits by buying cheaper products which have lower qualities with even more harmful substances. This will definitely have greater health risks for them. Moreover, she thinks that although some may react to this taxation and stop buying those products, others will continue buying those expensive products and leave even less money on healthy things.
Secondly, The passage insists that this action is fair through the lens of financial issues as peopel who use unhealthy things will eventually need medical treatments, so they are actually paying for their own sake. The teacher declares that everybody thinks of fairness differently. Some might say this strategy of paying for consequences is fair. Others may believe it is unfair, mainly because they take into account incomes. For instance, compare a high-earning cigarette addict with a low-earning one. The taxation is relatively high for the latter person and is a serious obstacle for them.
Tertiary, the essay acknowledges that this process will be considered as an income for the government which can be exploited for medical and other beneficial issues. The educator thinks this goal has diverse downsides. As this taxation values millions of dollars for the government, it finally will be dependent on that revenue. Therefore, the government may not see the urge to eliminate bad habits and do radical measures. As an illustration, the government will not set the rules against smoking in public places insomuch as it does not want to lose that income channel.
