In this set of materials, the reading part illustrate some theories to defined the reason of decline in yellow cedar`s population, it mentions to insect parasites, bears, and finally climate changes, as reasons for this phenomenon. However, the lecturer maintains some ideas which contradict with these reasons.
Firstly, the passage states that the population of these plant decreased because of beetle, which attacks the cedar trees; however, the lecturer states that these trees chemically are so powerful than other trees, which they cannot suffer from insect’s damages. Thus, we cannot consider them as problem.
Secondly, the lecture maintains to bears which gain sugar as nutriment from these trees, because they are capable to produce the sugar. So, based on this theory, bears aggressive feeding path can damage them. On the other hands, professor gives example which oppose to this theory. He mentions to some islands which bears do not inhabitant there but the population of trees decline on that location. So, it shows that bears are not responsible.
Finally, the reading part states about climate changes as problem, which effect the trees roots so their population declined; however, the lecturer states that in this hypothesis they miss a point, which roots mostly effected from worm and low elavtion and not cold and high elavtion, so we cannot consider climate change as a responsible for this disaster.
