Overall, the amount women who passed their test outnumbered the amount of men over the whole period. Moreover, the number of passed candidates increased throughout the years in both genders.
Regarding female candidates, there were just slightly under 50 percent of women passing their driving test in 1980. The figure then rose and reached a peak of 68 percent in 2000, before ending the period with approximately 64 percent of all female candidates in 2010.
In terms of male candidates, the percentage of men who passed their test stood at only 28 percent, which just slightly over one half of the figure for women in the same year (1980). Over the next 30 years, this figure increased considerably to 49 percent of all male candidates by the end of the period, reduced the gender gap to 15 percent of all candidates.
