Overall, there was an increasing amount of domestic waste recycled on 4 types of waste. The amount of glass waste recycled was the highest, whereas plastic was recycled the least. But glass waste recycled, which changed more dramatically.
In 1992, The proportion of glass, which was recycled, accounted for 14%, then it increased significantly to nearly 30% in 1997. In the next 5 years, the figure grew considerably to approximately 50%, which was the most recycled waste material in 2002. Similarly, the percentage of paper represented 14% in 1992 and climbed dramatically to about 40% in 2002.
When it comes to cans, the figure stood at nearly 20% in 1992, which was the highest type of household waste recycled in 1992. Subsequently, it declined slightly to over 10% in 1997 before rising substantially to 25% in 2002. By contrast, the percentage of plastic constituted approximately 10% in 1992, then it increased insignificantly to 13% in 1997 and stayed stable until 2002.
