In this set of materials, the author and the lecturer are discussing “Manifest Destiny”. According to the author, this phenomenon refers to an expansion across the country from one ocean to another as God necessiates. The author and the lecturer profoundly contrast each other while the author contends that James Folks’ annexation of Oregon territory to his platform during his presidental campaign showed his strong attitude about the belief of America’s “God given right” to this land and and thanks to it he gained many adherents, the lecturer claims that native Americans had not have been asked about the fate of Oregon territory, instead of this Spanish, Russians, British and Americans were consulted about the ownership of the land. But he states that the Spanish and the Russians moved another parts of the continent and the British and the Americans came across and the Americans took the possession of Oregon territory. The lecturer says that “Manifest Destiny” was questionable, it depends on President Folk’s voters support not native Americans support.
