In these set of materials, the reading claims that many employees prefer the four-day workweek that companies offer recently. However, the lecturer disagrees with the article; he says that four-day work week won’t affect companies and employees in the way that the reading suggests.

First, the reading claims that four – day work week would increase companies’ profits, because with more rested and alerted mood, employees can focus in their work and avoid costly mistake. On the other hand, the professor refutes this point by saying the four-day work week would cost companies the same for training and medical care, and extra expenses would be added to hire new employees and provide the required space and computers.

Second, the reading asserts that working four days a week would reduce the unemployment rate, because more employees would be needed to take some of the work load had been left by employees who had switched to four -day work. Conversely, the professor opposes this point by saying companies would rather increase their expectation and asking their current employees to work overtime. Which won’t create any job opportunities, instead it will make current jobs unpleasant.

Third, the reading posits that the four day workweek is better for employees who can afford less salary. Because it would increase their quality of life. However, the professor refutes this point by saying that with four day work system employees would have less quality of life. Since their job would be at a high risk for a lay-off, and they won’t have any opportunities for promotion to managerial positions.
