The charts below give information about USA marriage and divorce rates between 1970 and 2000, and the marital of adults Americans in two of the years.
The two charts reveal the marital situation in the USA from 1970 to 2000 with a further explicit status of adult Americans only in 1970 and 2000. According to the data given by the charts, it can be clearly seen that the majority of the population tend to have married status and it is endangered by a dramatic increase in the number of divorces.
Having an analysis by the millions of adults, the marriages have remained twice as many as divorces in the final year of the 20th century. From 1970 to 1980, relationships which are converted into marriage, have maintained stability opposite to those which broke out. After two 10-year periods, both married and divorced population have been slightly reduced with 1 million people. Finally, the number of divorced Americans is one million, only half represents the married ones.
One thing to point out is that the proportion of married people demonstrates the significant fall in number while divorced ones do not reflect steadiness for millions of adults.
Another thing to note out is that widowed and never married is known only for 1970 and 2000 years. The never married proportion has risen with 5 percents, whereas, in opposition, widowed ones with 2 percents less during 40 years.
In conclusion, marriages have continued to have a downward trend compared to divorces.
