In 2000, 20 percent of students could not speak any other language, while the number of students who knew another language was 5 percent lower than that. Students who could communicate in Spanish were double those knowing French, at 30 and 15 percent respectively. The proportion of students who could talk in German and two other languages was the same, at 10 percent each.
10 years later, the number of Spanish speakers increased by 5 percent, making it the most widely spoken language among students. While the number of students knowing French dropped to 10 percent, proportion of German speaker remained the same. The figure for students knowing no other language decreased by half than in 2000.
