The article and the lecture both deals with the professor being on tv. Whilst the the author thinks that appearing on tv news will have positive impact for specific reasons, the lecturer opposes the authors claim. In her opinion these reasons do not hold water.
First, author claims that attending a tv news would improve the professors reputation. He would be renowed as a scholar. In contrast the lecturer argues that his peer group would assume him as a entertainers and not a serious scholar. He would be entertaining rather than teaching students.
Second, viewing the professors intellectuality university gains some fame. Additionally more students would fill application for the school . Other people who are ready to donate the certain sum for charity would donate the university. But, the lecturer thinks that rather than spending much time on preparing for academic works he would engage in preparing for tv appearances. Thus, he would be far from teaching and the academic research.
Third, tv appearances influence the public. Professor would be like a open book for those who needs it. Furthermore, depth knowledge on certain topic is gained through that same tv program. In contrast, lecturer thinks that program would be short and professors donot give in depth knowledge about academic lectures.
Because of the above mentioned reasons ,it is highly questionable whether professors appearing on tv has any advantages.
