The diagram below shows how electricity is generated in a hydroelectric power station.

The diagram illustrates the process by/in which electricity is produced within a hydroelectric power station.
It is seen that there are six stages commencing with the water flow from the river to a high-level reservoir and ending with the pumped water back to the dam after generating electricity.
At the outset, the river floods a high-level reservoir before the water flows through the dam which is set the open or close mode at day or night, respectively. Next, the water with profound high pressure continues flowing into a power station. Then, power lines are produced with the result that the water makes the generator operational. As a result, electricity is created before entering into the national grid.
Simultaneously, the aforementioned amount of water flows into a low-level reservoir before returning through the generator at night which pumps it back into the high-level reservoir. Eventually, at that time, the dam is closed so water is stored to continue a similar process on the following day.
